About The JLPT
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is the largest-scale Japanese language test in the world. Since 1984, The Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services have continued to offer the JLPT as a reliable means of evaluating the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. The JLPT is widely recognised across corporate and government sectors as a benchmark for proficiency measurement, and is also a strong motivator for students of Japanese language.
- Held worldwide on the first Sunday of July and first Sunday in December of each year, but not at all locations.
- July Test application period announced around early February with application anticipated to start in March
- December Test application period announced around mid July with application anticipated to start mid or late August.
- Application for the JLPT in Australia is entirely online. Registration links to a ticketing website (Eventbrite) become available from this page when the time approaches.
Capacity for some cities and some levels may become booked out very quickly on the application opening day. For news on precise application periods, please check this website daily from late January and daily from early July. No emailing list is in use and potential applicants will need to monitor news for themselves.

Despite sincere efforts by all parties, we unfortunately must announce that there is no new host institution to hold the forthcoming JLPT in Victoria.
Next JLPT: DECEMBER 6 (Sun), 2026.
- Application period: Aug 28 (Fri) 9am – Sep 10 (Thu) 5pm AEST or until capacity is reached, whichever occurs first.
- Test Vouchers will be EMAILED to examinees approximately 1 month before the Test.

Capacity:
Note: Capacities in all four cities in Australia have been increased this time, in order to accommodate potential examinees who are willing to travel from Melbourne/Victoria to another test site. With such possible applicants’ movements, please be aware that even with the capacity increase, places may be filled up much more quickly in Adelaide, Gold Coast, Perth and Sydney, right after registration opens.
Cost
- N1, N2 and N3 ⇒ $105 Test fee + $6.81 Eventbrite booking fee.
- N4 and N5 ⇒ $95 Test fee + $6.27 Eventbrite booking fee.
All prices are inclusive of GST.
The Test Guide Is Mandatory Reading
- The Test Guide contains information about dates, procedures, sections and scoring, section duration, how to fill in answer sheets, etc.
- Australia-specific information is at the beginning, on pages (i – vii). The JLPT in Australia accepts online applications only. Paper or postal applications are not allowed.
- No photograph is required during application, nor for the Test Voucher. Photo identification is required on the day of the Test. THERE IS NO NEED TO EMAIL A PHOTO.
Test Results (July 2026)
Expected to be available online from the week of Aug 24 (Mon). Check this webpage again at around that time.
You will need your:
• Examinee Registration Number. This is found on your Test Voucher PDF that was emailed a month prior to the Test
• 8-digit passcode. All examinees created one on their application form during registration and payment. All application form answers (including passcode) are viewable in your Eventbrite ticket history. Steps will appear slightly differently depending on device (app / phone / computer) but as a rough outline: login or create an EB login matching the email address you supplied during JLPT registration, go to “tickets”, then “past orders”, then expand the details to view application form answers. On a computer, that final expanding link is labelled “View complete attendee info”.
The online results webpage does not stay permanently available. It applies only to the most recent test and remains accesible for a couple months after opening.
Postal Address Corrections
Postage of physical result certificate(s) commences September/October
For address corrections, notify your Host Institution as soon as possible and ideally by early September.
Reissuance of physical certificate of results
Duplication application of the latest test results can be submitted from the next business day of the online test results announcement (https://www.jlpt.jp/e/certificate/other.html). Application for duplication of results from older test is also from the same linked page.
Special Testing Accommodations (STA)
What is STA?
STA stands for “Special Testing Accommodations”. STA is a mandatory procedure for requesting non-standard exam conditions due to illness, injury, physical disability, or other conditions.
Who should apply for STA?
STA should be considered by any examinee that might:
• need to consume medicine DURING the test (including food / drink for medical reasons)
• wear health monitoring devices (such as an insulin meter)
• use hearing aids or reading glasses or a magnifying glass
• have developmental disabilities
